With a record-setting night at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, Stephen Curry commanded the headlines. The Golden State Warriors player dethroned Hall of Famer Ray Allen, who used to watch young Steph huck shots at Milwaukee Bucks shootarounds, as the all-time 3-point leader.
Curry’s historic prowess was highlighted at this moment for basketball fans. Those fans should also thank Allen, who was a formidable combo guard in his prime.

Steph is now ranked sixth in all-time 3-point percentage as of December 15th (43.1 percent ). In every year of his career, he has shot better than 40% from distance, however he is currently at 39.1% for the current season. This does not include the 2019-20 season, when Curry only appeared in five games.
Allen wasn’t nearly as effective as the Baby-Faced Assasin, but he was still one of the NBA’s most lethal snipers. Jesus Shuttlesworth had eight seasons of shooting at least 40% from beyond the arc, ranking him 47th all-time in 3-point percentage (40 percent).

Curry has a slew of additional skills that he brings to the basketball floor. Steph is a fantastic screener for a guard, able to open up space for his teammates and spark offensive play, as well as screen to create space for himself.
The Warriors’ point guard is also regarded as one of the best ball-handlers of all time. It’s how he’s able to continuously make room to remove that lovely sweater. Allen must have relished the opportunity to be the top man in an all-time category. Curry is likely to value it just as highly, and he may embrace the opportunity to be No. 1 if he achieves “unbreakable” status.
Curry’s feat may solidify the notion that he is the best shooter in NBA history. Ray believes the Baby-Faced Assassin is deserving of the moniker. But, in the end of the day, who really cares? Players are not defined by records or arbitrary designations.
The totality of a player’s abilities speaks more to the legacy he or she leaves behind. Allen should be recognized for the sort of player he was at every point of his career, just as Curry’s legacy will be about much more than simply shooting.
