Apple’s iOS devices were originally Windows-based, but since the release of Windows 10 in July 2015, anything from PC manufacturers running Windows 7 or higher is 100% compatible with the new OS. So how do you check if a PC is compatible with Windows 11? A few things to consider: 1) Does the manufacturer specify Windows 10 on their website? 2) Does the manufacturer specify Windows 10 on their retailer’s website? 3) Does the manufacturer specify Windows 10 on their retailer’s website? 4) Does the manufacturer specify Windows 10 on a sticker on a PC box? 5) Does the brand you’re planning on buying from have a Windows 10 version on their website? 6) How clear is the logo on the PC box? 7) Does
Microsoft has committed to offering its new Windows 10 operating system for free to all current PCs that are set to retire in the next couple of years. This means that, if you want to buy a new PC but worry it’s designed to run the Windows 10 operating system, you can check before you buy.
Microsoft is pushing hard to have Windows 10 installed on as many PCs as possible in the months to come, so much so that it’s hard to see what the future holds. After the unpleasant experience that the Windows 8 camp had with Microsoft, the company has been taking a much more aggressive approach to any operating system that doesn’t meet its standards.
When Microsoft delivers Windows 11 to OEMs this autumn, new PCs with the new operating system out of the box will be available. Many individuals still need a tablet, laptop, or desktop right now, and they want to ensure that the device will run Windows 11. Whether you’re in the market for a Windows PC and want to know if a certain model will receive a free upgrade to Windows 10, this article may assist.
Hardware requirements for Windows 11
Generation of computer processors
When shopping for a laptop or tablet, one factor to consider is CPU generation. Simply ensure that the PC you choose has an Intel 8th generation or higher CPU. The Intel Core i7-7820HQ, Core-X, and Xeon-W Series are the sole exceptions. Windows 11 will be installed on computers with certain CPUs through Windows Update.
When it comes to AMD, Windows 11 supports all Zen+ and newer architecture CPUs (Ryzen 2000 Series and up). Important: Laptop Ryzen 2000 processors are first-generation Zen CPUs. Those aren’t compatible with Windows 11!
The majority of new laptops and tablets have much more current technology than the Windows 11 minimum system requirements list. Check if a CPU inside a desired machine appears in the list of supported CPUs from Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm to ensure you’ve made a secure decision. Some manufacturers also claim that their laptops and tablets are compatible with Windows 11, which is a safe bet.
Computers for use at home
Things are almost the same for desktop computers and DIY, with one notable exception: you must setup a motherboard to get Windows 11. If Secure Boot and TPM are disabled, Microsoft may designate your system as incompatible, even if you have the newest generation of Intel or AMD CPUs. By default, most manufacturers deactivate such functionalities on their systems. To upgrade a PC to Windows 11, you’ll need to understand how to activate Secure Bood and TPM. Install available BIOS/UEFI upgrades from your motherboard makers as an alternative. Many OEMs are already delivering updated firmware that automatically enables Secure Boot and TPM.
Use a PC Health Checkup tool once you’ve completed constructing a computer with suitable hardware to make sure it’s Windows 11 compatible. The software will tell you whether you need to change any BIOS settings to obtain Microsoft’s latest operating system.
What about hardware that is older and has been used?
Even if your machine does not officially support Windows 11, you may still utilize it. For example, on a used laptop with an Intel 6th generation CPU. Once Windows 11 is out, you may clean-install it using official ISO files. Microsoft permits (but does not encourage) this, but you may not get any assistance. Microsoft has yet to say if Windows 11 would get upgrades and security fixes if it is installed on unsupported hardware.
For some people, staying on Windows 10 as long as it is supported will be the safest choice (until October 2025). Those willing to take a chance may still install Windows 11 with few restrictions as long as their machine satisfies the following requirements:
- CPU: 1GHz or better dual-core x64 processor.
- 4GB of RAM or more is required.
- GPU: DirectX 12-compatible discrete or integrated GPU with a screen resolution of 720p or above.
- 64GB or more of storage
That is all there is to it.
