The Tampa Bay Bucs are a professional American football team based in the Tampa Bay Area. The Buccaneers, or “Bucs” as they’re often called, play their home games at Raymond James Stadium and compete in the NFL’s National Football League (NFL) Western Division of the Southern Division. Their official colors are red, white and blue; however, black has been used since Super Bowl XXXVII for uniform accents on both uniforms and helmets..
The “tampa bay buccaneers fun facts” is a list of interesting facts about the Tampa Bay Bucs. The article discusses how the team has been playing this season, and what they need to do in order to win.
TAMPA, FLORIDA — Tom Brady, quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, dubbed Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills the “most important game of the year.”
The Bills are “very well-coached,” Brady remarked. “They put forth a lot of effort. A formidable opponent. The squad is quite tenacious. They put you to the test in every manner.”
With a four-game lead in the NFC South, the Buccaneers are putting pressure on the Arizona Cardinals (10-2) and Green Bay Packers (9-3) for one of the top two spots in the NFC, ensuring at least two home playoff games.
A victory, along with a defeat or tie by both the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers this weekend, would give the Bucs their first NFC South division title since 2007.
• The unusual role of Cordarrelle Patterson • Tom Brady’s’most important game’ • Aaron Rodgers’ best quotes • Ravens, Browns, and a strange schedule WFT’s postseason drive is filled with rivalries.
Despite the absence of White (expect Brady to put his replacement Dane Jackson to the test), they have a pair of nine-year veterans in Jordan Poyer, who is tied for the league lead with five interceptions, and safety Micah Hyde, who has three interceptions. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, nickelback Taron Johnson has allowed a 43.5 completion percentage when targeted, which is sixth best in the league, while linebacker Brian Poyer has allowed 43.8 percent.
Brady had more interceptions (5) than touchdowns (4) against coach Sean McDermott’s Bills from 2017 through 2019, although the Patriots won all of those games, and the Patriots normally had a strong running game, with the exception of Week 8 in 2018 (76 total rushing yards) and Week 4 in 2019. (74 total rushing yards). The Patriots’ defense, on the other hand, kept the Bills to 6 and 10 points in each of those games. The Patriots gained 200 yards on the ground on average in the other four games and scored seven running touchdowns.
On outside deep throws and vertical routes, the Bills don’t give up much, but on deep routes that break inside, they’ve given up huge plays. They’ve allowed 232 yards on inside deep routes, which is the third-most in the league (on the other hand, they’re one of the top teams in the league at defending inside short throws). On this route, the Buccaneers deploy Evans, Chris Godwin, and Breshad Perriman.
Short fade routes, screen passes, corner routes (he and Gronk connected on one of these against Buffalo in 2017) or throwing outside the pocket when plays break down, which the Bills allowed Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Washington Football Team quarterback Taylor Heinicke to do.
Bills have the upper hand.
Josh Allen vs. the Buccaneers’ pass defense
Last week, the Bucs reunited their starting cornerback duo of Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting for the first time since Week 1. Last week, Davis had three pass breakups and a 50 completion percentage against Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. With these two on the field, the defense seems to be more assured.

The post route has been Allen’s greatest throw this season. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Allen has a perfect passer rating (158.3) when targeting post routes this season, going 19-of-23 for 461 yards and six touchdowns, while the Bucs have yet to yield a post route for a score.
While the Bills have had trouble defending inside deep passes, the Buccaneers have had the most trouble stopping hitch routes, allowing 500 passing yards this season. Allen has completed 47 such throws this season, second only to Mahomes, which might be a concern. The Buccaneers have also struggled to defend the end zone flat, which speaks to their aggression (they blitzed on each of them) and corner routes.
When it comes to aggression, they have to be careful with Allen. While it’s common to throw everything at inexperienced quarterbacks, seven of Allen’s ten interceptions this season occurred when he faced four or fewer rushers, indicating that dropping defenders into coverage makes more sense. It’s also worth noting that seven of his ten interceptions have occurred in the last five weeks, indicating that he’s been attempting to do too much.

The Bills’ running offense vs. the Buccaneers’ run defense
In their Monday night defeat to the New England Patriots, the Bills’ inability to run the ball outside of Allen shone obvious. It’s been a problem for the whole year. The Bills have 896 rushing yards from running backs, which puts them 27th in the league (they have 1,400 total rushing yards, which speaks to Allen’s mobility).
Some say that the Bills don’t need to run the ball with anybody else since Allen’s 5.63 yards per rush is greater than Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor’s.
The Buccaneers, on the other hand, have had one of the league’s best run defenses in recent years. They gave up huge runs to Taylor and Falcons utility man Cordarrelle Patterson, but they’ve been strong in the run game overall, allowing just one 100-yard rusher all season in Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert. Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, the Bills’ running backs, are expected to have a quiet day.
Buccaneers have the upper hand.
On the other hand, the Bills’ pass defense has allowed 12 running touchdowns this season, which is tied for sixth most in the league. Despite quarterback Mac Jones trying three passes, they gave up 222 running yards against the Patriots. In Week 11, they also gave up 185 yards and four touchdowns on the run to Taylor, as well as 264 total rushing yards.
When Fournette met the Bills in 2018, he also scored two running scores, both up the middle. In the game, he recorded 108 scrimmage yards (73 of which came after contact). Given his recent hot streak (four touchdowns from scrimmage versus the Colts), he might have another great week ahead of him. However, the Bills have been very stingy on the perimeter this season. Fournette’s success will come from either the left or right guards, and it may occur after contact.
Fournette has the upper hand.
