Boston Celtics fans might be excited to see their team make a splash this upcoming NBA season, but they may not know who will be on the roster. With so many moves made in the offseason, there are plenty of players that could help the Celtics win games and contend for championships.
The celtics trade rumors are the best way to find out what is going on with the Boston Celtics. This article has 5 players that would be great targets for the team this season.
This summer, the Boston Celtics experienced significant roster adjustments, losing important players like Evan Fournier to free agency and trading Kemba Walker for Al Horford. Marcus Smart was re-signed to a 4-year, $77 million contract, making him either a long-term asset or a desirable trade component for the time being. The latter appears more probable now that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are on the team.
The Celtics have suffered a number of setbacks in recent years, whether it was losing Kyrie Irving to free agency or failing to take advantage of chances in a weak Eastern Conference. However, competition in both conferences is at an all-time high right now, and the Celtics will need to make a big move to compete with clubs like the Nets, Bucks, and Lakers. The Boston Celtics have five main objectives this season, with All-Defensive standout Marcus Smart being the most important asset. Young players like Robert Williams, Romeo Langford, and Aaron Nesmith, as well as three non-consecutive first-round choices (2022, 2023, and 2025) and additional fillers like Josh Richardson (to match contracts) and future second-round picks, are among the other components.
Jerami Grant is number five.
Due to his flexibility as a defender and a fastbreak athlete, Jerami Grant is the ideal modern-day forward. Grant was a strong candidate for the Most Improved Player Award, scoring 22.3 points per game after averaging just 12.0 the previous season. Grant brings a lot to the table, including defense and shot-blocking, but last year he completely changed his game.
Right now, the 6’8″ forward is a powerful offensive player who, together with Tatum and Brown, can create a genuine Big Three. Grant is a perfect fit at power forward, enabling Tatum to revert to his natural small forward position. If the Celtics sign Grant, a guy who may not fit in the Pistons’ plans in the future, they will be able to play quickly and switch on defense.
CJ McCollum (#4)

CJ McCollum is a fantastic offensive player for the Portland Trail Blazers, and he has regularly assisted Damian Lillard in leading the club to the playoffs. McCollum is coming off a season in which he averaged 23.1 points per game, a career best, and has averaged over 20 points per game for the last six years. In a few days, the sharpshooting guard will turn 30, indicating that he still has at least 3 or 4 years left as a top scorer.
With Tatum and Brown, the Celtics have a lot of scoring options, but McCollum will make their lineup very tough to defend. In a league where scoring outnumbers defense, Boston can definitely add more immediate offense, and McCollum might give the club one of the greatest scoring units in the league. It will be difficult to persuade Portland to sell him, but picks plus a defensive stalwart like Smart might be enough.
Zach LaVine (#3)
Zach LaVine is a rising star in the NBA as one of the greatest dunkers and scorers at the shooting guard position. The Bulls have yet to offer LaVine a contract deal, so trade speculations will abound throughout the summer. After all, the guard is a unique offensive player. LaVine, who stands 6’5″ and has a good three-point shooting (41.9 percent last season), is improving year after year.
Because Tatum and Brown are just 23 and 24, respectively, the 26-year-old is a great match for the Celtics. With LaVein on board, Boston would have a genuine Big Three, and veterans like Al Horford could easily fill in at center. The Celtics need to make a deal that fits both their long- and short-term goals, which a LaVine trade provides immediately.
Ben Simmons is number two.
The Bleacher Report is a news organization that focuses on sports
Despite all of the criticism and disappointment that has come his way since last year’s terrible playoffs, Ben Simmons is still a very fine player. On defense, he is a force to be reckoned with. Simmons was runner-up to Rudy Gobert for Defensive Player of the Year, and he was exceptional at guarding four spots at a superstar level. Simmons is a great playmaker on offense, with 7.7 APG in his career.
The 6’11” point guard is a one-of-a-kind talent who may help the Celtics reclaim their championship. In an uptempo system, Simmons will have little trouble finding Tatum and Brown, and as the team’s most dominating defensive player, he will flourish. Because the three-time All-Star is just 25, the Celtics can be a championship contender for the next eight years if they can sign him.
Bradley Beal, No. 1
(New York Daily News)
If Kevin Durant, James Harden, or Stephen Curry are unavailable, Bradley Beal must be the next greatest perimeter scorer. The shooting guard has been a standout offensive performer over the last two seasons, averaging over 30 points per game. The Washington Wizards are unlikely to make much of an impact in the Eastern Conference, so moving on for a high-value Beal in exchange for picks and young players makes a lot of sense.
The Celtics are about to acquire a superstar. Beal has the ability to generate his own offense, gets hot quickly, and is a go-to player in crunch time. Jayson Tatum is already proving to be a clutch performer, but adding a player like Beal to the mix may put the team over the top. In the NBA right now, offense is winning games, and Bradley Beal is the greatest available scorer. If the Celtics want to compete on offensive with Brooklyn’s or Los Angeles’ Big Three, they’ll have to go all out for the three-time All-Star.
