The Houston Texans have already been informed by the New England Patriots that they will not be receiving a first-round pick from them for the 2017 NFL Draft, as the Texans have been informed that they have been eliminated from the playoffs. Houston will receive a conditional 8th-round pick if Deshaun Watson should play a full season in 2017. The Houston Texans have a real chance to win their first playoff game since the 1999 AFC Wildcard, if they could acquire a solid quarterback who could take them to the Super Bowl.
In the last week the Indianapolis Colts have been linked via trade to the Miami Dolphins in a deal that would send top quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Colts.
The Miami Dolphins have been in the NFL playoffs twice before in the 2000 and 2008 seasons, but both years they were bounced out in the early rounds. But this year could end up being different.
Deshaun Watson’s story with the Houston Texans may be coming to an end soon. According to reports, the Miami Dolphins are the frontrunners to get Watson in a trade.
Since 2016, the Dolphins haven’t made the playoffs, and they haven’t won one since 2000. If the front office pulls off this deal, they may be able to turn their fortune around.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports on Twitter, the Miami Dolphins are Deshaun Watson’s preferred trade destination, and they have emerged as the frontrunner.
Watson has spent the last four seasons with the Texans, who selected him first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Aside from his off-field issues, it’s simple to see why the Dolphins might want to trade for him.
Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama was selected as the No. 5 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft by Miami. For the first-year player, it was an up-and-down year. With Ryan Fitzpatrick as quarterback, the club mismanaged the situation. Tagovailoa’s promotion to starter came as no surprise, but the Dolphins may have done it too soon.
On many instances, the Dolphins removed the rookie quarterback late in games because the pressure was too much for him. Tagovailoa’s natural potential is obvious, but his lack of confidence seemed to be a problem in 2020.
Watson would be a huge improvement over Tagovailoa. He has 14,539 throwing yards, 104 touchdowns, and just 36 interceptions in four seasons. He’s the first player in NFL history to have more than 25 throwing touchdowns and five running touchdowns in consecutive seasons.
The dual-threat Clemson product would provide a new facet to the Dolphins attack that Tagovailoa cannot.
The offense of the Miami Dolphins has improved.
Watson spent three seasons in Houston with All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Even so, he’d have the greatest offensive assets of his career in Miami. Although Hopkins is probably the greatest receiver in the NFL, the Dolphins have a more complete skill position group.
Another former Texan, Will Fuller, would be reunited with his old QB. Injuries have prevented the pair from achieving its full potential in the past. Fuller, on the other hand, is a dangerous downfield threat who can extend the field.
The Dolphins are ecstatic with speedster Jaylen Waddle, whom they chose with the No. 6 overall selection in the NFL Draft in 2021. The Alabama native is a game-changer. With his blazing speed, he can run precise routes at all three levels and is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenders.
Watson would have two pass-catchers in Fuller and Waddle, both of whom ran a sub-4.4 40-yard sprint. The Dolphins also have bigger big-body targets. DeVante Parker had a difficult start in the NFL and has struggled with injuries, but he has showed potential. He caught 72 receptions for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns throughout the course of his career.
End of the rope Mike Gesicki is maturing and developing chemistry with Tagovailoa. He has no reason to believe he won’t be able to do the same with Watson. He’s another receiver that can extend the field and is one of the best athletes at the position.
Watson is accustomed to playing with a committee system in the backfield since he has never played alongside a star running back. Myles Gaskin showed promise in 2020, and he has the makings of a potential three-down star.
The Texans’ asking price for Deshaun Watson may be the only stumbling block to a Deshaun Watson trade.
Making a deal with the Houston Texans does not seem to be an easy task these days. The team’s general manager, Nick Caserio, had said that Watson would not be traded. The Texans have a history of being obstinate, so expect a hard deal before releasing the three-time Pro Bowler.
The asking price for Watson in Houston is very high. In any trade involving the Gainesville, Georgia native, they want three first-round selections and two second-round picks. Given the current FBI investigation into sexual assault accusations, it’s doubtful that any team will be ready to give up that haul. Tagovailoa, for example, is one of Miami’s bargaining chips.
The Dolphins completed the regular season with a 10-6 record, barely missing the playoffs in 2020. They may be on the verge of bringing in a top-10 quarterback in the league.
If Deshaun Watson is signed and plays in 2021, Miami might be a playoff contender. They recently missed the playoffs in 2020 and would be bringing in a top-10 QB.
